8.7 Mapping the Chart: The Method and the First Three Loops

~32 min read

The Diagnostic Method: From "Knowing the Chart" to "Knowing the Mind"

We usually come to Tử Vi (Purple Star astrology) out of curiosity about the future, but in truth the chart is neither a preset verdict nor a certain promise. It is a map of karmic force: a set of tendencies, sensitive points, and easily triggered loops — an energy configuration we carry like the background temperament of a life.

Yet there is a deeper layer to be liberated: the way we react to that configuration is the frequency of our consciousness.

Consider a classic example: two people both have a Mệnh (life) palace with Thái Âm in a weakened position.

  • At the level of karmic force (Force — below 200): This person easily sinks into suffering (Grief — 75), living in nostalgia, melancholy, and a sense that life has "taken away" their safety. They become a victim of their own emotions.

  • At the level of the power of Nguyện (Power — above 350): From that very same weakened Thái Âm, this person learns to empathise with pain, to understand the fragility of emotion, and to transform it into healing energy for others (Acceptance — 350, or Love — 500).

The difference does not lie in the position of the star in the sky at your birth. The difference lies in the level of consciousness that operates that star.

If section 4.1 helped us answer the question: "Right now, what level am I at?", then section 4.2 goes one step further: "What level does my chart configuration make me prone to falling into — and what level am I choosing to operate it at?"

This is precisely the bridge between karmic force and Ý Thức (Awareness):

  1. Karmic force is the configuration: stars, palaces, positions, and the chemical interactions among the stars.

  2. Ý Thức is the way of living: the choice between unconscious reaction and conscious creation.

To help the reader undertake this journey, the diagnostic method of "Tử Vi Tâm Thức" rests on three levels of positioning:

Diagnostic Level Core Question Aim of Transformation
Level 1: Locating Nghiệp (The Pattern) What loops of emotion and behaviour is the chart "installing" in me? (Kỵ Thần / weakened stars) Recognising the inner "battlefield."
Level 2: Locating the Frequency (The Frequency) Am I reacting to those pressures with Force energy (Fear, Anger) or Power energy (Courage, Acceptance)? Measuring how "submerged or afloat" Ý Thức is.
Level 3: Locating Nguyện (The Choice) What is the Dụng Thần of energy that lets me "spring" out of the old loop? Activating Power energy to rewrite reality.

From here, reading the chart is no longer mere prediction of transits. Diagnosis is for positioning: locating where Nghiệp is likely to strike so as not to be swept away, and locating where Ý Thức stands so as to begin rebuilding. When the positioning is accurate, the path of transformation becomes concrete — no longer generic advice, but a route "tailored" to the very structure of your Mệnh.

Tử Vi now is no longer a dry algorithm of fate. It becomes the art of illuminating the mind and liberating human potential.

The Operating Principle: The Formula for Pivoting Destiny

Within the thought-system of Tử Vi Tâm Thức, we need to agree on one foundational formula to pivot the whole way we read a chart. This formula does not turn Tử Vi into pure psychology; it places each system in its proper position: the chart is the context, Ý Thức is the steering wheel.

Karmic force (the chart) + Consciousness (the Hawkins frequency) = the reality of your life

You may share the very same star cluster, the same palace, or pass through the same major cycle as thousands of others in the world. Yet the actual result of your life is completely different. Why? Because the chart does not "give birth" to results directly. It only supplies energetic material. The final result is determined by the frequency of reaction — that is, the way your consciousness contacts, processes, and transforms that material.

The difference of the Frequency of Reaction

Let us look at how a "Nghiệp" configuration (for example, a cluster of weakened stars or a Kỵ Thần) expresses itself through different levels of consciousness:

Hawkins frequency Inner story (the psyche) Expression of the chart
Level 75: Grief (Đau khổ) "Why me? Life takes my effort for nothing; I was born to suffer, and it will be the same wherever I go." The Verdict. Karmic force tells the old story to lead into a well-worn sadness. Thái Âm and Thiên Đồng activate helplessness.
Level 200: Courage (Can đảm) "This is hard, but I am not afraid to get started." The Map. The chart shows the direction and what to lean on in order to move forward.
Level 350: Acceptance (Chấp nhận) "I am responsible for my reality. Every star, beautiful or painful, holds something for me to train on." The Map for learning. Auspicious stars become tools for growth. Sát Tinh become Alchemy.
Level 500: Love (Tình yêu) "I am what I have; I need nothing added." The chart is Mệnh. Transcending fate, the influence of auspicious and malefic elements all becomes Nguyện.

The event does not change, the positions of the stars on the chart do not change, but "the one operating the chart" has changed. And when the frequency of the driver changes, the trajectory of the ship of destiny changes course with it.

The golden principle: The chart does not determine the frequency — the frequency determines how the chart expresses itself in life.

Our task in section 4.2 is not to hunt for "good stars" to cling to or "bad stars" to fear. We learn to see: Which Force zone does this configuration tend to pull the mind toward when unconscious, and in which direction must Ý Thức be raised to transform it into Power.

Three Layers of Analysis: The Process of Locating Consciousness

The difference between a person led by fate and a person who masters their destiny lies in the capacity to Observe. The three layers of analysis below help you separate your being from old momentum, so as to see clearly what is the "hardware" of Mệnh and what is the "software" of Ý Thức.

1. Layer 1: Diagnosing the "Gravity of Karmic Force" (Mệnh)

Every chart is a unique energy configuration. At this layer, we recognise the psychological tilts the stars create. When Ý Thức is absent (unconscious), we tend to be pulled toward the corresponding levels of energy.

Configuration / star cluster Force zone prone to falling into (unconscious) Psychological nature
Cự Môn - Hóa Kỵ / Đà La 100 (Fear) - 150 (Anger) Suspicion, anxiety over gossip, inner self-attack.
Thái Âm / Thiên Đồng weakened 50 (Apathy) - 75 (Grief) Excessive sensitivity, prone to dramatising, clinging to the past.
Kình Dương - Thất Sát weakened 150 (Anger) - 175 (Pride) Oppositional reaction, using force or coercion to solve problems.
Tử Phủ Vũ Tướng (overly dominant) 175 (Pride) Overvaluing self-image, difficulty accepting criticism, the "trap" of self-esteem.

Insight: Layer 1 is not for labelling "a bad chart." It helps us know where our "low ground" is, so as to stay alert whenever we step into it.

2. Layer 2: Locating the "Centre of Gravity of Ý Thức" (Nguyện)

If Layer 1 is the "angle of tilt," then Layer 2 is your current standing position. This is the most important step, because it determines the frequency you are using to operate the chart. You diagnose not on the basis of what is "already written," but on the basis of what you are actually living.

To locate yourself, observe your reactions over the last three months:

  • When you fail, do you blame difficult transits (100 — Fear) or punish yourself (30 — Guilt)?

  • Are you living by hoarding and defence (the Force zone) or by creativity and sharing (the Power zone)?

The distillation: The centre-of-gravity frequency is the "floor" you live on most often. A person with a poor Mệnh but standing at level 350 (Acceptance) will have a more serene life than a person with an exceptionally beautiful Mệnh who lives at level 125 (Desire/Competition).

3. Layer 3: Decoding the "Karmic Loop" (Nghiệp)

This is where chart and consciousness intersect most clearly. A karmic loop occurs when a star configuration (Layer 1) triggers a fixed reaction of consciousness (Layer 2).

The operating formula of the karmic loop:

Trigger (star/transit) → unconscious reaction (Force) → consequence (reality) → reinforcement of the old belief

Examples of loops:

  • The Defence loop: Thất Sát + Kình Dương → feeling threatened → anger (150) → aggression → loss of a relationship → belief that "life is a battlefield."

  • The Escape loop: weakened Thiên Đồng → meeting pressure → apathy (50) → giving up → failure → belief that "I am useless."

The aim of Layer 3 diagnosis: To see clearly the "script" Nghiệp is writing for you. When you see the script clearly, you are no longer a passive actor. You begin to have a gap of freedom in which to choose a new reaction (Power). This is the moment you begin to steer the loop off course.

The Karmic Loops: Decoding "Psychological Fate"

In Tử Vi — as in life — we rarely suffer from a single isolated event. We suffer from a repeating pattern of reaction to that event. The event comes and goes, but the reaction stays, imprinting into habit, into character, and gradually into "fate."

This section, 4.2.2, is our effort to operate on the Karmic Loops. It helps you see the common denominator of your unconscious reactions, so as to escape the cycle you have always taken for an immovable fate.

The mechanism of a loop of consciousness

A loop is not random. It is an energy route already "furrowed" deep in the subconscious. Its operating cycle can be described by the following structure:

  1. Trigger: A star of transit or a real situation touches a "sensitive point" on the chart (for example: Thất Sát touching wounded pride).

  2. Instinctive reaction (Force): Consciousness drops into the zone below 200 (Fear, Anger, Shame).

  3. Fixed belief: Old inner voices rise up: "I am not good enough," "Others are always out to harm me."

  4. Repeated behaviour: Attack, flee, or give up.

  5. Old result: Reality answers back exactly as we feared or predicted.

  6. Reinforcement: We tell ourselves: "See? That's just my fate!". And the loop grows ever more firmly fixed.

5 Core Loops

We will analyse, one by one, the 5 most common patterns found in Tử Vi Tâm Thức consultations. Each pattern is a combination of a star configuration and a low frequency of Ý Thức.

Name of Loop Triggering Star Cluster (Trigger) Typical Hawkins frequency
1. The Victim Loop Thái Âm / Thiên Đồng weakened + Tang Hổ 75 (Grief) - 50 (Apathy)
2. The Warrior Loop Thất Sát / Kình Dương + Hỏa Linh 150 (Anger) - 175 (Pride)
3. The Skeptic Loop Cự Môn + Hóa Kỵ / Đà La 100 (Fear) - 30 (Guilt)
4. The Mask Loop Tử Phủ Vũ Tướng + Quyền Lộc 175 (Pride) - 125 (Desire)
5. The Void Loop Vô Chính Diệu + Không Kiếp 50 (Apathy) - 125 (Desire to fill)

The journey out of a loop does not begin with "fixing the chart" from outside. It begins by creating a gap of awakening between the trigger and the reaction. When you see the loop rising, you have already taken hold of the wheel.

The chart tells you the direction of the wind of Nghiệp, while consciousness decides how you turn the sail of Nguyện to cut through the waves and rise.

Loop 1: The Victim Loop

Triggering star cluster: Thái Âm / Thiên Đồng weakened + Tang Môn – Bạch Hổ Central Hawkins frequency: 75 (Grief) ⟷ 50 (Apathy)

There is a very quiet kind of suffering: not suffering because life is too fierce, but because the mind has grown used to seeing itself as a being from whom life has "taken everything." In this loop, sadness is no longer an emotion passing through; it becomes a lens. Every event is interpreted in a single way: "I am the one who loses out."

In the Golden Triangle Mệnh – Nghiệp – Nguyện, this is a state in which Nghiệp uses emotion to imprison you in a role. This role carries a toxic "reward": you need not take responsibility for change. But the price paid is that life energy is drained dry.

1. The psychological mechanism: "The pendulum of helplessness"

This loop often forms from the "empty memories" of childhood: being forgotten, being compared, or having to carry burdens too early. From there, the mind sets a default command:

  • "Life does not favour me."

  • "No matter how hard I try, the result is still loss."

How it operates:

  1. Grief (75): The mind clings to the past with "If only..." questions.

  2. Apathy (50): When the sadness drags on, the nervous system falls into a "freeze" state to conserve energy. We say: "Never mind."

  3. Consequence: That very "never mind" makes us miss opportunities, leading to real failure, which in turn reinforces the sadness.

2. The triggering star cluster: The energetic "sore points"

Star / cluster Role in the loop Expression at low consciousness
Thái Âm weakened A deep lake of water Prone to isolating the pain, withdrawing into inner darkness.
Thiên Đồng weakened The wounded child An excessive need to be comforted, easily disappointed and prone to giving up under pressure.
Tang Môn - Bạch Hổ A field of mourning energy Always interprets objective events in a direction of sorrow and loss.

Note: These stars do not "force" you to suffer. They only describe your sensitive zone. When this sensitive zone meets a low level of consciousness, the loop starts automatically, like a channel already dug for water.

3. Recognition system: Symptoms & Beliefs

To diagnose whether you are stuck in this loop, compare yourself against the following table:

Symptoms (inner) Behaviour (outer) Core Beliefs
A feeling of abandonment even while standing in a crowd. Often retelling the "I suffer" story as a way to connect or to seek recognition. "Life is never fair to me."
Living by a "past version" of what should have been. Delaying, avoiding important decisions for fear of failing again. "No one can truly understand me or stay by my side."
Listless, drained of life energy, feeling "exhausted" even without heavy work. Withdrawing, rarely opening up to new opportunities or new relationships. "Hope only leads to disappointment."

4. Case Study: Lan and the "Verdict" of weakened Thái Âm

5. The path of dissolution: From "Victim" to "One Who Is Present"

This loop does not call for fierce struggle (Force); it calls for soothing and reorientation.

  1. Name the loop: Use language of separation. Instead of saying "I suffer so much," say: "I recognise the Victim loop rising." That distance is precisely where Ý Thức is born.

  2. Heal the body (leaning on Level 50): When you are in the Apathy zone, do not try to solve the problem by thinking. Take a warm bath, sit in the sun, sleep enough, and move the body gently. Return energy to the Body before working with the Mind.

  3. Restructure the question: Shift from a question of "Lost" to a question of "Left."

    • From: "Why is life so unfair to me?"

    • To: "Right now, what still belongs to me, and what can I do with it?"

  4. Activate a "micro-Nguyện": Perform one consistent action each day (for example: write three lines of a gratitude journal). The goal is to create the feeling of "I can do it" — this is the key that opens the door to Courage (200).

  5. Transform the stars:

    • Thái Âm: From "gloom" into the energy of intuition and empathy.

    • Thiên Đồng: From "giving up" into softness, flexibility, and the ability to nurture the inner child.

Core message: The end of this loop is not when life suddenly becomes fairer. The end is when you realise: You no longer need the world to be fair in order to be allowed to live a meaningful life.

The Warrior Loop

Triggering star cluster: Thất Sát / Kình Dương + Hỏa Tinh – Linh Tinh (Hỏa Linh) Central Hawkins frequency: 150 (Anger) ⟷ 175 (Pride)

There are people who enter life as though entering a battle. The world in their eyes is sharply divided: either respect or threat; either winning or being crushed. This is the loop of opposition.

Along the axis Mệnh – Nghiệp – Ý Thức, this is when the fierce temperament of Mệnh is pushed by Nghiệp (the habit of defence) toward Force reactions (pressure). When Ý Thức has not yet enough space to steer this fire, it will burn down their relationships and their own peace.

1. The psychological mechanism: "The armour of woundedness"

The core of this loop is the belief that: "This world is not safe; if I am not hard, I will be crushed."

Stage Description of the sequence
1. Trigger Pride is touched (being criticised, belittled, or losing control).
2. Reaction (Anger) Erupting or attacking to reclaim the "upper hand."
3. Digging in (Pride) Building up the argument that "I am right" to protect the image, refusing to admit error.
4. Consequence Creating covert resistance or isolation from those around.
5. Reconfirmation Believing "no one is on my side," which leads to needing to "fight" even more.
Star / deity Function in the Force zone Identifying signs
Cự Môn A mind that "cannot switch off." Sharp reasoning, but only for defence; saying hurtful things out of fear of being attacked first.
Hóa Kỵ A whirlpool of negative suggestion. Always believing there is some hidden "system error"; excessively sensitive to gossip and others' remarks.
Đà La A dragging net. Makes sadness and doubt persistent, "chewing over" an old event in the mind for days on end.

3. Diagnostic system: Symptoms & Beliefs

  • Symptoms (inner): The brain runs continuously before sleep; sensitivity to non-verbal signs (a "seen" with no reply, a strange look); a feeling that "something is wrong" even when the evidence is unclear.

  • Behaviour (outer): Often asking again, explaining at length to avoid being misunderstood; delaying big decisions; arguing fiercely to defend a viewpoint, then going home to torment oneself over having "spoken out of turn."

  • Core beliefs: "This world is not sincere," "If I let down my guard, I will pay for it," "I have a flaw that makes everyone always misunderstand me."

4. Case Study: Nam and the war with "Evidence"

5. The path of dissolution: From "Doubt" to "Verification"

The Skeptic loop cannot be broken by "forcing yourself to trust." It must be dissolved through the wisdom of verification.

  1. Name the "story": Use the technique of separation: "I am having a thought that..." instead of "They hate me." This helps place Ý Thức in the position of observer rather than victim of emotion.

  2. Fact-check against reality: Whenever Cự Môn builds a scenario, ask: "What is the actual evidence (not the feeling) for this?".

    • The fact: A colleague has not answered the email.

    • The story: They are looking down on me. To separate these two is to have won 50% of the loop.

  3. Cool the Body-Mind (dissolving Đà La): When stuck in a "whirlpool" of thought, cut caffeine and exercise vigorously. Đà La needs muscular movement to break the stagnation of thinking.

  4. Turn Guilt into Responsibility (raising level 30): Instead of saying "It's because I always mess things up," say: "I did this part clumsily; I will fix it right away." Shift from self-punishment to correcting behaviour.

  5. Transform the stars into talents:

    • Cự Môn: Becomes sharp critical thinking, superb systemic analysis.

    • Hóa Kỵ: Becomes deep intuition, the ability to see through patterns that ordinary people miss.

    • Đà La: Becomes endurance, the steadfastness to "dig deep and plough hard" until the result comes.

Core message: You have the right to doubt the world, but do not use that doubt to wound yourself. When you dare to accept that you can be wrong and still be safe, the Skeptic loop will automatically lose its pull.

Loop 4: The Mask Loop

Triggering star cluster: Tử Vi – Thiên Phủ – Vũ Khúc – Thiên Tướng + Quyền / Lộc Central Hawkins frequency: 125 (Desire) ⟷ 175 (Pride)

There are people who do not live to live, but live to maintain an image. They are not exactly false; it is only that they have unconsciously come to believe: if they are not "beautiful," not "right," not "successful," they will not be loved or respected. The dazzling mask, created at first to protect their safety, later becomes a prison confining their very being.

This loop often appears in charts with a strong "Emperor star – Authority star" foundation. In the Golden Triangle Mệnh – Nghiệp – Nguyện, this is when the leadership temperament of Mệnh is led by Nghiệp through two motives: the craving for recognition and defensive self-esteem.

1. The psychological mechanism: "The thirst for recognition"

The core of this loop is the fear of being seen as "not enough." Feeling a lack of inherent self-worth, the mind chooses the strategy of "piling on" external values.

  • Desire (125): Addiction to achievement. Always chasing new milestones to prove oneself.

  • Pride (175): Using past success as armour. Becoming rigid, hard to teach, and always wanting the "upper hand" in order to feel safe.

How it operates: Lack of worth → chasing recognition (125) → attaining it and clinging to the image → pride to hold the position (175) → fear of the weakness being exposed → straining/controlling → burnout/emptiness → chasing recognition again.

2. The triggering star cluster: The "egos" of authority

Star / authority star In the Force zone (below 200) Identifying signs
Tử Vi / Thiên Phủ The lonely, conservative "king." Clinging to honour, fearing loss of face, hard to lower oneself to learn from the young.
Vũ Khúc A dry measuring machine. Valuing oneself and others only by figures, money, and performance.
Thiên Tướng A slave to appearances. Living by social standards, fearing ridicule, always trying to appear "up to standard."
Hóa Quyền / Hóa Lộc The engine of expansion. Lộc heightens the craving to possess; Quyền strengthens the need to impose and control.

3. Recognition system: Symptoms & Beliefs

  • Symptoms (inner): Always feeling "not enough" despite having much; feeling guilty when resting; fearing that others will see one as "ordinary" or as a failure.

  • Behaviour (outer): Communicating correctly but with little emotional depth; often subtly showing off achievements; growing cold or defensive when given feedback.

  • Core beliefs: "I only have worth when I succeed," "The truth about me is very ordinary; I must hide it," "Love is something to be earned through achievement."

4. Case Study: Minh and the trap of "Perfection"

5. The path of dissolution: From "Mask" to "Being"

This loop does not ask you to give up success. It asks you to return success to its proper place as a tool, not as your identity.

  1. Accept the "not enough": Instead of fleeing, face the fear of being looked down upon. Recognise: "I am wearing a mask to seek safety." Simply seeing the mask clearly will begin to loosen it.

  2. Disidentification: Practise the affirmation: "I have these achievements, but I am not these achievements." You are still you even when you lose every title and possession.

  3. Practise "active vulnerability" (Courage – 200): Courage here is not straining; it is daring to say: "I don't know," "I need help," or "I was wrong." Honest vulnerability is the very key that breaks Pride.

  4. Transform Quyền/Lộc into service:

    • Quyền: Use your standing to protect and lift up subordinates rather than to suppress.

    • Lộc: Use abundance to share and create value rather than to fill an emotional black hole.

  5. Rise to Acceptance (350): Accept that you are an ordinary human being with flaws. When you accept yourself, you no longer need the world's applause in order to feel at peace.

Core message: You are loved for your own authenticity, not for the perfection you are trying to perform. When the mask falls, the weight of "fate" also grows lighter, giving way to a true authority that comes from serenity.
